PESHAWAR, April 16: Provincial Senior Minister Sirajul Haq has criticized the role of the Western media and held it responsible for the US invasion on Afghanistan and Iran.

He said President Bush had acknowledged that the role of CNN was more effective than the CIA in winning the Gulf war, and called upon the Muslim to play their due role in media war; otherwise, history would not forgive them.

He was addressing the inaugural session of a one-day media training workshop entitled “New Trends in Mass Communication” at the media centre of information department here on Saturday.

Sirajul Haq said the Muslims must think about the betterment of the humanity than personal gains in the light of the teachings of Holy Prophet (PBUH).

He said we should set our goals to ensure the glory of Islam and accelerate pace of national development.

The senior minister expressed the hope that officers of the information department and the local media would realise the challenges of the time and keep themselves abreast with the latest skills and changes in various dimensions of the media.

“They will not only project the development activities and achievements of the provincial government, but also counter the misleading propaganda

of foreign media,” he maintained.
