KARACHI, April 16: City Nazim Niamatullah Khan laid the foundation stone of Shahrah-i-Jehangir reconstruction project on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that all roads in the city were being built as per the globally recognized technology and standards due to which the newly-built roads had survived the recent heavy rains which had badly damaged those built in the past.
The city nazim said that he had suggested to President Musharraf during his visit to Karachi that the federal departments using the city’s infrastructure should also contribute to its uplift. He said that the president had appreciated the idea and the city had been given the historic Rs29 billion uplift package being implemented now.
The nazim hoped that the package would greatly help change the face of the city. He said that he would continue to serve the city till August 14, the cut off date of his tenure.
He clarified that Shahrah-i-Chishti and Shahrah-i-Allama Rasheed Turabi were built in North Nazimabad to cater to the needs of its residents and not because he himself was a resident of the town. —PPI
