KARACHI: Factory GM, others remanded


KARACHI, April 15: The administrative judge of the Accountability Courts (ACs), Mrs Qaiser Iqbal, remanded on Friday the former general manager of the Thatta Cement Company and five contractors to the custody of the National Accountability Bureau. Ex-GM of the Thatta Cement Company, Syed Riauzul Hasan Rizvi, Mohammad Iqbal and Mohammed Ashraf of the United Marketing Corporation, Hyderabad, Mahesh Kumar and Uttam Parkash of the Busy Enterprises, Hyderabad, and Sultan Salahuddin, proprietor of the Progressive Cement Traders, Karachi, were arrested on Thursday by the National Accountability Bureau.

The judge gave them into NAB custody for investigation and interrogation into corruption charges against them till April 29.

As per detail, the management of Thatta Cement Company violated the policy laid down by the State Cement Corporation with regard to rebate and other procedures.

Besides, selling cement on credit the suspects also allegedly exported cement to Quetta, showing it for Afghanistan on papers. — Staff Reporter
