Road accidents in NWFP claim 24 lives

MANSEHRA/DERA ISMAIL KHAN, April 14: Twenty-four people died in two road accidents in the NWFP on Thursday. In the first accident, an overloaded jeep plunged into a 100-foot-deep ravine about 60 kilometres from Mansehra, killing 13 people and injuring two.
The jeep was going to Balakot from Nakka Reen.
Police said the vehicle had been carrying 18 passengers out of whom three, who jumped out of the jeep when it skidded off the hilly road, escaped unhurt.
The dead were identified as Manzoor, Mohammad Ismael, Mohammad Bashir, Akbar, Sadiq, Nazir, Sadaquat, Farhad, Rukhtaj Bibi, Ms Baggo Jan, Beenish Bibi, Ms Sher Bano and Ms Meher Afzoon.
The injured were admitted to the DHQ hospital in Mansehra.
In the other incident, a pick-up was on its way to Paroa when it collided head-on with a truck near Daraban Khurd on the Indus Highway, about 20 kilometres from Dera Ismail Khan.
Six persons died on the spot and another five in hospital.
Ten of the deceased were identified as Nazir, Zarina Bibi, Zubaida Bibi, Imran, Umer Qayaz, Rab Nawaz, Aslam, Allah Wasaya, Zulfiqar and Sawan.
The driver of the truck escaped from after the accident.
