SARGODHA, April 14: The executive district officer (education) on Thursday postponed the mini-marathon scheduled to be held in Khushab for fears of resistance by the MMA activists. District Nazim Malik Ehsan Tiwana took serious notice of the cancellation of the event and asked the EDO to explain within two days reasons for taking a decision without consulting the district administration.
The EDO had set April 14 for a mini-marathon of men to be held in Jauharabad but cancelled it at the last moment to avoid any untoward incident.
PROTEST: Local journalists on Thursday condemned the police action against press photographer Shahid Bokhari and a reporter of a local daily.
The two journalists were reportedly beaten up by police when they were covering an MMA’s rally on March 31st last.
The journalists claimed that the police higher-ups had suspended from service SHO Amir Aziz Warriach and deputed SSP (Headquarters) Tahir Alam to inquire into the matter and submit a report within seven days.
The speakers, including Press Club President Sajjad Abbas Niazi and secretary-general Shaheen Farooqi, said they would protest against police for restricting media from covering any event.
They also demanded arrest of the kidnappers of another journalist’s son.
Later, they thanked District Nazim Malik Amjad Ali Noon and the Sargodha Range DIG for accepting their demands.
