HYDERABAD: Police excesses alleged

HYDERABAD, April 14: Hundreds of residents of Shah Latif town blocked the main Sabzi Mandi chowk after police officials of the Anti-Car Lifting Cell allegedly ransacked a house in order to search for ingredients for manufacturing of mainpuri. Residents said police trespassed into the house of Hafeez Ansari and Rafiq Ansari, the brother of Abdul Rasheed Ansari, conducted search for ingredients of mainpuri.

The Ansari brothers had been preparing mainpuri but nowadays their business was lying closed.

A resident, Rustam, said driver Niazi and employee Zeeshan had been taken away by the police team.

The family members said the police officials harassed them, looted household items and ransacked the house.

They alleged the police resorted to aerial firing, prompting people to block the main road and lit bonfires.

Site TPO Mohammad Ali Rind said the DPO suspended ACLC in-charge following police action.

The ACLC official had taken away some ingredients of mainpuri including betel-nut.
