JWP demands commission for probe into March 17 clash
QUETTA, April 10: The central executive committee of the Jamhoori Watan Party has demanded an ‘investigation commission’ to probe into the March 17 incident in Dera Bugti to expose and punish the real culprits involved in the killing of 70 innocent people. The committee has suggested that the government, with mutual consultation should select three of 15 important figures for the commission. JWP secretary-general Agha Shahid Hasan Bugti presided over the committee meeting held on Sunday in the Bugti House.
The meeting approved a resolution suggesting the 15 names — Supreme Court judge Justice Rana Bhagwan Das, former SC judges Justice Abdul Qadeer Chaudhary and Justice Fakaruddin G. Ibrahim, Justice Fazalur Rehman of the Balochistan High Court, former Justice K.M.A. Samdani of the Lahore High Court. There are also names of ex-Balochistan governor Main Gul Aurangzeb, ANP leader Senator Asfandyar Wali, former Punjab governor Ghulam Mustafa Khar, ex-MNA from Punjab M. Hamza, ex-Sindh chief minister Ghulam Mustafa Jatio, MNA from Sindh Mir Hazar Khan Bijrani, intellectuals Ayaz Mir, Zahida Hina, Irshad Haqqani and ex-HRCP chairperson Asma Jahangir.
The resolution stated that the executive committee did not ask for a favourite investigation commission, but had suggested some names that were recognized for their contribution to national cause.
The executive committee, which met for the first time after March 17, termed the Dera incident an attempt on the life of party leader Nawab Akbar Bugti by the state-patronized power.
The resolution said it was for the first time that the state armed groups had targeted from four corners a personality, who was not only the leader of a big political party of Balochistan, but had also remained on important positions at the Centre and province.
The meeting claimed that the attack on Nawab Bugti was pre-planned.
