People suffer as public transport impounded

By Our Correspondent

SHEIKHUPURA, April 10: Hundreds of public transport vehicles, including buses and vans, were impounded by the district administration to carry people to Kasur where President Pervez Musharraf will address a public meeting on Monday (today). The passengers were seen standing listlessly at bus and wagon stands to find transport to reach their destinations. Some transporters parked their vehicles at secret places to avoid impounding.

Many passengers condemned the impounding of vehicles, terming it unwise and unjustified. If the rulers were so popular, why they used such tactics to fill the meeting venue, they argued, saying the practice was undemocratic and unconstitutional.

RALLY: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal on Sunday took out a rally to condemn the alleged police firing on its activists in Gujranwala on April 2.

Speaking to the rally, MMA district general secretary Yousaf Sialvi condemned the government policies, alleging the rulers were trying to impose ‘secularism ‘ in the country. He vowed to foil the ‘evil designs’ of the government.

Jamaat-i-Islami city Amir Sheikh Jamil Ahmad on the occasion alleged the rulers were disgracing the women in the name of mini-marathon race events.
