HYDERABAD, April 9: The Sindh High Court, Hyderabad circuit bench, on Thursday restrained the chairman of the anti-corruption establishment and other officials from making any probe into the case of Prof Mohammad Ahmed Khan, chairman of the Nawabshah district Zakat and Ushr committee.
The division bench of the court, comprising Justice Mujeebullah Siddiqui and Mohammad Moosa K. Leghari, treated the case as public interest litigation after the petitioner claimed that adviser to Sindh Chief Minister Ghulam Rasool Unnar exerted political pressure on him for disbursing zakat fund among PML-Q workers and when he refused to do so, he was threatened with dire consequences by the chief minister.
The petitioner sought protection against harassment which had been unleashed against him for political considerations.
Suspending the operation of a letter, written by the ACE circle officer to the petitioner, the court issued notices to respondents and additional advocate-general, Sindh, requiring them to submit their comments within 15-days.
The court fixed the matter for April 27.
The 70-year-old petitioner sent the petition by post which was treated as constitutional petition by the court under Article 199 of the Constitution and was fixed for hearing.
The petitioner was present
in person and said he was
disbursing zakat fund honestly to people with insufficient means.
