ISLAMABAD, April 8: The Senate standing committee on interior has recommended the appointment of a chartered accountants firm to probe into the alleged irregularities in National Assembly Secretariat Employees Cooperative Housing Society (NASECHS).
The committee headed by senator Ayaz Khan Mandokhail met in the Parliament House here on Friday. It directed the Islamabad administration to hire some reputed firm for the audit of the society’s accounts.
The meeting also recommended the holding of elections of the society’s management committee members before May 15.
The committee made these recommendations while reviewing the report of the subcommittee regarding the “situation arising out of the ban on the activities of the elected body of the NASECHS”. It gave unanimous approval to the report of the subcommittee. The chairman of the subcommittee, senator Sardar Mahtab Ahmed, apprised the committee of the salient features of the subcommittee’s recommendations.
He said the major objective of the committee was not only to go into the details of the incident which led to the ban on the society and seizure of its accounts but also to take a positive direction so that it could be brought back on the track.
“It was our considered view that the record of the society’s accounts should be examined by a neutral institution and that reliable chartered accountants should be hired to scrutinize the accounts of the society,” he said.
The members of the committee lauded the strenuous efforts made by the chairman and the members of the subcommittee in preparing an excellent report and coming out with best possible recommendations.
The meeting was also attended by senators Hamidullah Jan Afridi, Kamil Ali Agha, Tahir Iqbal, Ms Tahira Latif, Sardar Mahtab Ahmad, Mateen Shah and the mover Senator Professor Muhammad Ibrahim Khan.
