Trio share first round lead: Golf

PESHAWAR, April 7: Mohammed Munir posted a card of six-under 66 to share the leaderboard with Akhtar Ali and defending champion Shabbir Iqbal on the opening day of the 27th Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) golf championship at the PAF Golf Course on Thursday.
Munir registered 33 for the front nine with birdies on fourth, sixth, seventh and ninth hole and in the back nine he carded 36, with birdies on 14, 17 and 18, but missed strokes on 10, 11 and 13 holes.
Akhtar carded 34, two under on front nine with birdies at four, six and 32, four under par, including birdies at 14, 15 and 17 on the back nine. He just missed 10-feet put over hole number 11.
Shabbir posted an excellent 31, five under at front nine and 35, one under at back nine with eight birdies and at double bogey at hole 14 and bogey at 15.
Muhammad Tariq, Nisar Hussain and Muhammad Saddique were joint second with 67 — five under par — while Muhammad Abbas, Muhammad Nazir were in third place with 68, four under par.
In the amateur (0-12) handicap, Tariq Mehmood ended up with 67, 33, three under for the front nine and 34, one under par on the back nine. Adil Jehangir carded 70, two under par 34 at front and 36 at the back nine.
A total of 250 competitors are contesting for honours in professional, amateur, veteran, pro-veteran, ladies and boys U-14 events.
The championship carries a purse of Rs225000/- for professionals while gold and silver medals for amateurs and a car for Hole-in-One.
