SOA fails to submit accounts
By A Sports Correspondent
KARACHI, April 6: In spite of a reminder, the Sindh Olympic Association (SOA) has not yet submitted the accounts of the funds they had taken from the Sindh Sports Board (SSB) for participation in the inter provincial games at Lahore and the last National Games held at Quetta.
An official of the provincial sports department said on Wednesday that following the directives of the Sindh Governor, who is also the chairman of the board, the SSB gave a sum of Rs. 3,15,000 to SOA for sending different teams to Lahore for the Inter-provincial games held there from Dec 5 to 7,2003.
Earlier, the SSB had turned down their request but they approached the governor who ordered for giving the grant.
After failing to get the receipts for almost a year, the SSB issued a reminder dated Dec 8, 2004, to the SOA to submit the accounts, but the provincial body gave it a deaf ear.
Last year, the SSB gave a sum of Rs. 97,255 in two installments of 72,505 and 24,750 to SOA for participation in the National Games held at Quetta from Sept 30 to Oct 5, 2004. The SSB is still waiting to get the receipts for audit.
In all, the SSB doled out Rs. 4,78,940 for sending the Sindh squad to Quetta which included railway fare and purchase of track suits for athletes.
The next National Games are due to take place in Karachi some time next year and the SSB has decided to organize it in a befitting manner.
