39 weapons seized

By Our Correspondent

GILGIT, April 6: As the search operation against arms entered the fifth day on Wednesday, law-enforcement agencies seized 39 weapons from Baseen area. Speaking at a news briefing, Regional Chief Secretary Manzoor Nadeem said that the seized weapons included a machinegun, two Kalashnikov assault rifles, five bombs, four detonators and 500 grams explosive material, and detained over 17 suspects including some government employees.

Out of the seized weapons 16 were legal, while 23 were illegal, he said, adding that so far search teams had seized 456 weapons and detained 42 people for interrogation.

The secretary said that that search operation would continue.

During the question session, he told reporters that the administration would not give security cover or transport facility to the government employees not attending the offices and notices to resume duties would shortly be printed in newspapers.

He said that those found absent would be summarily dismissed.

Replying to a question regarding the issue of school curriculum, the chief secretary said that a committee was working to find a solution but no security or transport would be extended to the delegations purportedly going to Islamabad to discuss the issue.
