KARACHI: City gets less water due to power failure

KARACHI, April 6: Karachi received 10 mgd less water on Wednesday due to a power shutdown for over two hours in the morning. According to the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, the power supply to Pipri Pumping Station remained suspended for about two hours and ten minutes - first from 4.55am to 6.55am and again from 7.25am to 7.35am. Water supply to all other city areas; however, continued through an alternate system, the water board said.

Meanwhile, addressing a meeting of water board officials, its Managing Director, Brig Iftikhar Haider, expressed dissatisfaction over the performance of the organization’s complaint centres.

He directed that engineers should be posted at complaint centres to make them effective. He also resented the unavailability of complaint registers at such centres.

The MD also directed that telephone numbers of the board’s complaint centres should be erected at prominent place besides distributing handbills so that citizens faced no inconvenience in contacting the centres.

Sounding a note of warning to the officials, the MD said he would pay surprise visits and take stern action against inefficient employees.—PPI
