KARACHI, April 6: Sindh Chief Secretary Mohammad Aslam Sanjrani on Wednesday morning visited fish harbour and inspected performance of the Turtle Exclusive Device (TED). Director-General of Marine Fisheries Department Commodore Qamar Raza told him that the TED, introduced in the country six years back, had helped in alleviating the extinction threat to various turtle species.

The device is attached to net to ensure safety of the turtles falling into the net. The device also works if used for avoiding excessive damage to fish and prawns cache while fishing, according to fishermen present on the occasion.

Mr Sanjrani took round various parts of the harbour and inspected fishing process and also discussed various matters with fishermen. He told them to expand their services on self-help basis. He also advised the fishermen community to do away with the obsolete basket system for transportation and switch over to the modern methods.
