NA body for uniform education standard

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, April 5: The National Assembly standing committee on education on Tuesday asked the government to evolve an integrated system and ensure equal standard of education in private and government institutions. The committee meeting presided over by MNA Begum Tahmina Dasti also stressed the need for transformation and upgradation of religious seminaries into regular government schools so that they could be brought into the mainstream.

The committee was of the view that for the selection of material for textbooks, focus should be made on highlighting the moral norms and that development process by various countries should be kept in view while developing curriculum.

The curriculum so prepared should be responsive to the modern socio-economic, technical and labour market needs of the country.

Earlier, while briefing the committee, Federal Minister for Education Lt-Gen (retired) Javed Ashraf Qazi said the ministry planned to revise the national curriculum for which a committee would be set up soon.
