SAHIWAL, April 5: Yusafwala police claimed to have arrested a gambler who allegedly lost his 14-year-old daughter as stake at a gambling den being run in a roadside hotel on GT Road on Monday night, along with five other people, including two women. The police claimed that on a tip-off they raided Rehmani Hotel on GT Road near Chak 84/5-L, which was allegedly being used as a gambling and prostitution den.

According to the police, Muhammad Rafiq had offered his daughter Sonia as stake to one Khurshid after loosing a gambling game.

However, Khurshid demanded that the girl be married to his son Ghafoor. When the deal was about to be concluded, the police raided the hotel and arrested Rafiq, Sonia, Khurshid, Ghafoor, Shakoor, Rani and Parveen, the wife of Khurshid.

The police claimed that during primary investigation they were informed that the hotel was also being used as a prostitution den, and women brought from the NWFP were sold and purchased there.

The police registered the case under the Gambling Act and section 13-14 of Hudood/Zina ordinance. The accused were sent to jail on judicial remand.

LOOTED: Four armed bandits entered the house of a grower in chak 95/9-L and fled along with cash and ornaments worth Rs110,000.

The bandits entered the house of Muhammad Abdullah and after holding the inmates hostages collected the cash and ornaments and fled away in the early hours of Tuesday. Yusafwala police have registered the case.

PEACE BODIES: Ulema and Mushaikh wing of the PML will constitute peace committees at district level in the province on the orders of PML Punjab president and Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.

Provincial minister and PML Punjab general secretary Chaudhry Zaheer Ahmed said while talking to newsmen.

District coordination officers had been asked to provide necessary security to the committee members, he added.
