Rain hits unofficial

KARACHI, April 4: Just 8.2 overs of play was possible on the opening day of the first unofficial Test between Sri Lanka ?A? and Pakistan ?A? because of heavy rain at the Asgiriya Stadium in the Sri Lankan hill town of Kandy on Monday. In that brief period, the home team lost key wicket of ex-Test Sri Lankan opener Avishka Gunawardene, trapped leg-before-wicket to left-arm pacer Najaf Shah, for six.

When the day?s proceedings were finally abandoned at 3.20pm (local time), Sri Lanka ?A? had advanced to 35 for one in their first innings with Michael Vandort (14) and Ian Daniel (9) at the crease.
