Petronas begins gas supply

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, April 4: Petronas Carigali (Pakistan), a subsidiary of Malaysia’s national oil and gas corporation Petronas, on Monday announced that it had commenced gas production from the Rehmat field in Block 2769-4 (Mubarak), Sindh. The processed gas is being supplied to Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited’s Sawan Qadirpur trunk line starting from March 28 through a 35-km pipeline from Rehmat Gas Plant in Ghotki, near Sukkur.

The initial production rate of the plant is 15 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) and it is expected to increase 60 mmscfd in the next two months, says a press release.

Petronas Carigali holds 45 per cent share where upstream activities are being undertaken on a joint venture basis with partners, Eni Pakistan Limited with 30 per cent share and Government Holdings Private Limited with 25 per cent share. The gas field was discovered in August 2001.

This is Petronas’ first success in Pakistan after entering the country in 1996.
