Judicial probe into

MUZAFFARABAD, April 3: Workers of Peoples Party AJK on Sunday demanded of President Pervez Musharraf to hold a high level judicial inquiry into what they called judicial murder of their party?s founder chairman and former prime minister of Pakistan Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

The demand was made at a function held here at a local hotel on the eve of Z A Bhutto?s 26th death anniversary. The function was presided over by party?s Deputy Chief Organiser Shaukat Javed Mir.

?It has now been proven that our leader was hanged pursuant to an international conspiracy against Pakistan and its people. We, on the eve of his death anniversary, call upon General Pervez Musharraf to appoint a commission, comprising judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, to investigate and unveil hidden facts in respect of his judicial murder,? Mr Mir said in his concluding speech.

Eulogising the role of Mr Bhutto for Kashmir cause, he said it was Mr Bhutto who made the world realise that peace could never perpetuate in this region if Kashmir issue was not resolved in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiris.

Mr Mir also demanded that PPP chairperson Ms Benazir Bhutto be allowed to return home unconditionally so that she could play her role for betterment of the people of Pakistan.

?Its now an open secret that the present regime has failed to deliver and only Ms Bhutto can steer the country out of the crisis, both at domestic and international level,? he added.

Mr Mir and other speakers vowed to accord warm welcome to the party?s senior leader Asif Ali Zardari in Lahore on April 16.

Meanwhile, PPAJK and its sister organisations have chalked out different programmes for Monday to mark the 26th death anniversary of late Z A Bhutto.

Party sources told Dawn that Quran khawani would be held at Saheli Sarkar Mosque in the morning which would be followed by a big function in the press club where senior leaders would pay homage to the late leader.
