HYDERABAD, April 3: The Awami Action Committee, Qasimabad, held a demonstration outside the press club here on Sunday to protest against non-recruitment of Sindhi-speaking people in the Jamshoro Joint Venture and sacking of 15 local people by the Sui Southern Gas Company. Speaking to the protesters, committee chairman Mehboob Abro alleged that JJVL manager Ashfaq Leghari was providing jobs to outsiders, and was demanding illegal gratification to appoint those locals whose lands had been affected by the project.

Fifteen employees of the SSGC HQ-3 had been sacked for no reason, he asserted

He warned that if local people were not employed in the JJVL and the sacked SSGC workers not reinstated, the committee would continue holding protest demonstrations and hunger strikes.

It may be recalled here that the JJVL manager, Ahraf Leghari, had refuted Mr Abro’s allegations at a recen press conference, making it clear that majority of the employees were Sindhi-speaking.

Mr Leghari said that he was being pressurized to appoint the henchmen of Mr Abro as well as of other vested interests, which he had refused to do.

WASA: The Water and Sanitation Agency has notified that last date for depositing water bills has been fixed as April 14.

The agency appealed to consumers to deposit bills on time to ensure regular water supply to them.
