Speedy Super Conqueror should oblige connections today

By Ian Fyfe

KARACHI, April 2: Super Conqueror a speedy three-year-old bay colt, starts off as our day’s best, when the Winter Gymkhana Race Meeting gets under way at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

Participating in the main event going over six furlongs, Super Conqueror should be followed home by thoroughbred chestnut horse Real Gift and thoroughbred chestnut filly Fantasia.

All in all eight events have been drawn up for the afternoon’s programme. The first five will be contested over the sprinting distance of five furlongs and the last three will go over six.

The first race begins at 1-30 p.m.

In the opener, Taneez finishing second last week behind On The Run, should make amends and gallop to victory, followed closely by I’m So Happy and Jango, with Ghori providing the element of surprise.

The bay colt Azam The Great is working well in the morning workouts and if tried should beat Royal Leader and Lucky Five at the winning post.

In the third race on the afternoon’s card, the blue roan mare Piyari Mehooba looks a good thing to grab the top honours although Ladla and Ultimate Victory will also put up a good performance throughout the race.

If all goes well, The dark bay mare Trust Me, owned and trained by Allah Judrio is our fancy to pass the winning post ahead of Snake River and the game blue roan horse Desperado, in the following event.

The dark bay thoroughbred filly Noor-e-Arab contesting in the fifth event going over the sprinting distance of five furlongs in a big field of 18 runners, is our fancy to overcome the likes of the bay horse Safeena-e-Arab and the speedy bay filly Charming Girl.

Athough penalised to carry 9-5 on is back, the chestnut horse Sarazen should sprint to victory in the sixth event, with Ever So Clever and Dinoo Makrani following closely behind for the two place berths.

The seventh race will see 11 runners from Class VI vying for the spoils. Of the lot the thoroughbred bay mare Penny satisfied to play the bridesmaid in her last three outings, is now on song to win this event followed home another bay mare Guarantee and Prime Panther.
