KARACHI : Life normal in city, says Rauf

KARACHI, April 2: The Sindh Home Minster, Rauf Siddiqui, on Saturday morning visited various parts of the city and expressed satisfaction over the normal flow of traffic and hustle and bustle in bazaars and business activities.

The minister visited Karimabad, Lalu Khait, Dak-khana, Liaquatabad, Teen Hati, Samanabad, Aisha Manzil and other areas.

Banks, schools, colleges and universities, government and private offices remained open in the city, he said, adding that private, public transport as well as buses of the Urban Transport System were plying on various roads of the city as normal.

Later, talking to journalists at the Governor’s House, the home minister claimed that law enforcement agencies had arrested persons with explosive material, who were planning to disrupt peace in the city, thus foiling attempts of terrorist activities.

He said the police had arrested a man from Sohrab Goth, who during interrogation, disclosed that he was given the task to carrying out subversive activities and setting transport vehicles on fire.

The police had also made arrests in Jamshed Town police station limits, said Mr Rauf.

Responding to a question, the home minister said that the MMA’s claims of the arrest of its 2,000 workers were baseless.

He claimed that no strike was observed in Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Thatta and others areas of Sindh.

Various industrial and trade organisations, industrialists, businessmen, trade unions, labour leaders and transport associations appreciated the steps taken at the government level and efforts made by the Sindh Transport Minister, Adil Siddiqui, as a result of which industrial and commercial organisations witnessed normal activity on Saturday.

In their separate messages and telephone calls, they all thanked Mr Siddiqui and said that because of the steps taken at the government level, the working environment in all industrial business establishments remained normal with normal transport on roads.

The transport minister paid a visit to various city areas on Saturday. He visited Liaquatabad, Gulbahar, Nazimabad, SITE, Banaras, Patel Para and Saddar areas and reviewed the conditions.

The Adviser to the Chief Minister on Environment, Noman Saigol, and Adviser on Public Problems Syed Manzoor Hussain also paid visits to various areas.

Mr Saigol visited the PECHS, Shaheed-i-Millat Road, the Sindhi Muslim Society, Tariq Road Commercial area, Bahadarabad, Khalid Bin Walid Road, Hasan Square, Jail Road, Saddar, etc. While Syed Manzoor Hussain visited New Karachi, UP Moar, Nagan Chowrangi, Buffer Zone, Hyderi, Board Office, North Nazimabad, Golimar, Lasbella, and Empress Market.
