Nouman grabs tennis crown

PESHAWAR, April 1: Nouman clinched Peshawar tennis tournament title after defeating Shah Hussain on Friday.

Nouman faced tough resistance against Shah Hussain in the gruelling match which lasted for one hour and 19 minutes. Nouman won the first set 7-5 (6-6). He was leading 3-1 but Hussain came back strongly and levelled the game 3-3. The set was again tied at 6-6 but Nouman finally won it 7-5 on tie-breaker, hitting two aces.

In the second set, Nouman failed to maintain his domination against Hussain who prevailed with powerful smashes before winning the set 4-6.

Nouman performed better in the third set through some fine cross-court and powerful smashes that helped him race to a 6-4 win.—APP
