‘Agri growth result of govt policies’

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, April 1: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Friday said increase in per acre yield made the overall improvement in agriculture production possible and this was reflective of the success of the policies pursued by the government. He stated this while reviewing the quarterly goals of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock at the Prime Minister’s House.

Mr Aziz said the government attached top priority to the agriculture sector as it was the backbone of the country’s economy and could bring a revolution in the lives of farmers as well as the rural populace of the country. Agriculture, he said, could play a vital role in alleviating rural poverty. He said by the grace of God and due to the policies being pursued by the government the agriculture sector had shown growth for the second consecutive year. It was expected that the 21.2 million tons wheat target would be achieved, he added.
