Govt ready for Gwadar land legislation: Musharraf

KALAT, April 1: President General Pervez Musharraf on Friday said he favoured legislation on land ownership in Gwadar and on the reconstitution of the parliamentary committee on Balochistan. He was speaking at a gathering of tribal elders at the residence of Khan of Kalat, Agha Suleman Dawood.

Responding to points raised by the Khan of Kalat on the occasion, the president said while the right of ownership was being discussed it should also be seen why local people were selling their lands in Gwadar. He said he had already asked the provincial government to look into the matter and examine the need for legislation. He assured the gathering that while people from other areas could come to Gwadar to develop it, no one could dislodge the locals.

Expressing regrets on recent incidents in Sui and Dera Bugti, the president said these isolated happenings had no nexus with the entire province, but they were projected otherwise.
