HYDERABAD, April 1: The Sindh government is planning to carry out water supply and other development schemes under the Hyderabad Development Package, an official source told this correspondent on Friday.
He said the schemes had been discussed in detail in Karachi at a meeting which was presided over by local bodies’ adviser Waseem Akhtar.
The meeting was attended by officials of the district government including the DCO, officers of the HDA works and the services department, additional chief secretary local government, provincial planning and development department.
The source said the schemes would be part of Rs10.5 billion HDP or the governor’s package.
He said that funding would be made by the Sindh government in the current fiscal year.
Another source said the works and services department had submitted project cost (PC-1) of various schemes which pertained to upgradation of water works of Hussainabad and Hala Nako where raw water was being supplied to population.
He said one more water purification plant would be installed at 30MGD filter plant of Wasa on the Jamshoro road.
Flyovers are being planned to be built over Latifabad-7 and the city and over the Mirpurkhas-Hyderabad road near the lined channel to ensure smooth flow of traffic.
The source said an amount of Rs900 million had been estimated for the schemes.
Improvement of the existing graveyards and construction of new parks are also being planned under the schemes.
It may be pointed out that the DCO had been given temporary charge of the project director of HDP schemes until a full-fledged project director was appointed for which the post had been re-advertised.
The Sindh government had allocated Rs1 billion for the HDP in its current fiscal year budget.
