HANGU, March 19: Police smashed a signboard depicting picture of a woman and tore into pieces some posters during a raid on the shop of a cellular phone company’s dealer here on Friday, saying these displayed pictures of women. A police party, headed by DSP Ijaz Abid, raided the shop of Sharifullah, Ufone’s authorized dealer, and tore posters. Some policemen climbed the roof and smashed the signboard with stones and hammers.
The incident has created concern among the business community. The DSP appreciated the policemen who took part in the incident for their ‘good performance’. An official of Hangu police station said they had initiated action against those traders who displayed signboards with women’s pictures on their business places.
When contacted by phone, district police officer Zaibullah Khan said the police had asked the company’s dealer several times to remove the signboard, but he failed to comply with the order.
