Aqeel and Aamir rout KESC


KARACHI, March 18: Pacemen Rana Aqeel and Aamir Yousuf shared nine wickets between them to skittle out KESC for 137 on the second day of the three-day Patron’s Trophy tie against DFML at the Asghar Ali Shah Stadium on Friday. Aqeel snapped up five for 50 and Aamir took four for 32 as they helped DFML take a slender seven-run first innings lead. By the close of play, DFML pressed home their advantage to extend their overall lead to 178 as they scored 171 for four in the second innings. Shahid Qambrani (68 with five fours and two sixes) and Waqar Kundi (24) were at the crease.

Opener Naeemuddin slammed 50 with five hits to the fence. Pool leaders United Bank Limited (UBL), meanwhile, looked on course for an innings victory after building a first-innings lead of 271 over SSGPL at the UBL Sports Complex.

Batting a second time, SSGPL were 182 for four with Sajid Qureshi missing out a century by only five runs. His 95 off 115 balls included 15 boundaries. Irfanullah is still batting with 50. Earlier, UBL closed their first innings at 397 for seven in 90 overs in reply to SSGPL’s paltry total of 126 after resuming at the overnight score of 161 for two.

Rizwan Ahmed struck 12 fours and two sixes in his unbeaten 170 off 199 balls.

DFML 144 in 56.3 overs (Waqar Kundi 53, Naeemuddin 25, Adnan Kalim 24; Wajahat Farooq 6-30) and 171-4 in 66 overs (Shahid Qambrani 68 not out, Naeemuddin 50, Waqar Kundi 22 not out; Asif Ghauri 2-34));

KESC 137 in 55.4 overs (Mansoor Khan 59, Javed Mansoor 24 not out; Rana Aqeel 5-50, Aamir Yousuf 4-32).

SSGPL 126 in 45.4 overs (Mansoor Ali 33, Saeed Asif 23; Arun Lal 6-39, Nauman Ali 4-24) and 182-4 in 45 overs (Sajid Qureshi 95, Irfanullah 50 not out; Sufyan Ali 2-45, Shoaib Leghari 2-45);

UNITED BANK 397-7 in 90 overs (Rizwan Ahmed 170 not out, Tariq Rasheed 52, Akram Khan 47, Imran Ali 30 Hasnain Abbas 21; Abdul Qadir 3-108, Mansoor Ali 2-91).—APP
