Election staff told to maintain discipline

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, March 3: Chief Election Commissioner Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar on Thursday asked the officers and staff of the commission to perform their duties with devotion and honesty.

Speaking at a meeting with officers of the commission, he directed them to be courteous to the people visiting their offices in connection with election matters. Genuine grievances of public must be addressed forthwith in accordance with law, he observed.

All available resources should be utilized for ensuring that forthcoming local government elections are held in just and fair manner, Justice Dogar said, adding that discipline and decorum should be maintained at all levels.

There would be no compromise on discipline and any officer or official found lacking in this regard would be taken to task without any discrimination. Similarly, provincial election commissioners have been asked to ensure that strict compliance of these directions was made by officers and officials.

Justice Dogar also issued directives to make recruitments strictly on merit by observing all formalities, rules and instructions. He also directed the provincial election commissioners to prepare posting plan of officers and officials posted in hard areas for over three years, and shift them to better stations to mitigate their problems.
