PESHAWAR, Feb 27: An Afghan trader escaped unhurt in an attempt on his life, but his driver and gunmen received bullet injuries in an ambush at the PAF intersection on the Ring Road here on Sunday.

Police officials said that the trader, Haji Inayat Khan alias Manjay, was going along with his driver and a gunmen on his Land Cruiser, when he came under fire. As a result, Inayat Khan's driver Dadak and gunman Noor Khan, both Afghans, suffered injuries but he himself escaped unhurt, police officials said.

Inayat Khan has nominated seven persons in his FIR registered with Pishtakhara police station. They are Shehreyar, his father Shahbaz, Wazir, Suleiman and three accomplices, all Afghan nationals. Inayat Khan told police that his rivals had tried to kill him as he had helped his fellow trader, Haji Bakhatullah Shinwari, recover his son, Asmatullah, 16 days ago.

He had been kidnapped allegedly by four persons. The police had arrested the four accused on information provided by Haji Bakhatullah. Meanwhile, a nephew of former president of the Peshawar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Faiz Rasool, was kidnapped from Hayatabad township on the night between Saturday and Sunday, sources told Dawn.
