ISLAMABAD: NGOs to speak on changes to LG law

ISLAMABAD, Feb 19: Representatives of civil society organizations will announce their position on the proposed amendments to the Local Government Ordinance and present their demands to the government at a press conference on Monday.

According to a statement, the NGOs would focus on the proposals to cut the number of seats and merger of union council, which would have serious repercussions on the marginalized groups.

The issue of appointment of administrators in place of nazims would also be discussed. The representatives of Action Aid, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, Pattan Development Organization, Sustainable Development Policy Institute, Sungi, Bedari, Sach, IRM, Aurat Foundation and Potohar Organization for Development and Advocacy will speak on the occasion.
