PESHAWAR: International scholarship for librarian

PESHAWAR, Feb 13: The International Federation of Library Association (IFLA) has awarded the Advancement of Librarian ship Programme (ALP) Scholarship to a female candidate from Peshawar.

Recipient Ms Afsheen Karim is the programme manager of the School Library Services (SLS). The SLS is a country wide network of different libraries that is aimed at development of school libraries throughout the country. She was the only candidate selected from Pakistan.

Ms Afsheen did her MA from the Department of Library and Information Sciences, University of Peshawar in 2002 and was awarded a one-month scholarship to study in Singapore in 2004.

During this period she completed her internship at the Jurong Regional Library, National Library Board of Singapore. She also assisted in school outreach activities, creation of booklists and other programmes for children and young people.

In addition to her attachment at a regional library, her internship included visits to a school library, the Community Children's Library, and a community library.
