PESHAWAR: Two convicted of drug trafficking

PESHAWAR, Feb 11: An additional district and sessions judge on Friday convicted a woman and a man of drug trafficking and sentenced them to life imprisonment with a fine of Rs50,000.

The judge, Farhatullah Khan, observed that the prosecution had proved its case against the accused.

The convicts, Sidra, wife of Sher Khan, of Rawalpindi, and Khaliq Noor of Bannu were arrested by Chamkani police while they were travelling in a car on the Grand Trunk Road Oct 18, 2003.

The police claimed that they had received a tip about smuggling of narcotics from Dara Adamkhel to Rawalpindi. They seized 120kg of charas and 12kg of opium from the car.

NAIB NAZIM ARRESTED: The naib nazim of a union council and another man were arrested on Friday after their application for pre-arrest bail was dismissed by Additional District and Sessions Judge Rajab Ali Khan in a case of attempted murder.

Shabkhel Union Council Naib Nazim Talawat Khan and Gulzar Khan were charged in an FIR registered at the Bhadabher police station by one Imtiaz Ahmad, who alleged that the accused had injured him in firing.

Advocate Gohar Saleem appeared for the complainant and stated that the accused were directly charged in the case and they did not deserve to be granted bail.
