PESHAWAR, Feb 11: A proper management information system (MIS) is needed to strengthen the capacity of tehsil administrations of providing civic amenities to people, the participants of a workshop said on Thursday.

The speakers said the system should focus on collection of authentic data, its processing, consolidation and analysis and sharing of information between the government and the private sector.

They discussed framing of an information system to bridge the gape between different stakeholders and execute a plan to provide ideal civic facilities at the grassroots.

They said the water and sanitation sector MIS, a project launched by the Water and Environmental Sanitation Network, would be a platform to share information regarding the services of the town municipal administrations.

NWFP Urban Development Project Director Tahir Azeem said the Asian Development Bank was financing the project with an estimated cost of Rs2 billion and its main target was to develop the vision of both rural and urban population.

He said the managers at tehsil level were not completely aware about the assets of their administrations and how the revenue could be properly utilized to develop an ideal infrastructure of civic facilities. He said the MIS project would be completed in 2008.
