Decision on Kalabagh dam not taken yet: CM

By Our Correspondent

JACOBABAD, Feb 7: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has said it will make no difference if assemblies pass resolutions in favour of or against the Kalabagh dam because a decision on the issue will be taken by the federation.

Talking to journalists at the marriage ceremony of former Sindh minister Sardar Muqeem Khan Khoso in the Qadir Pur village here on Monday, he said the federal government would take a decision keeping in view the opinion of people.

He said though President Gen Pervez Musharraf was in favour of constructing dams, no decision had yet been taken regarding the Kalabagh dam. He said the president wanted a consensus on the issue. He said a decision in this respect would be taken after the report of the technical committee on the issue.

Dr Rahim admitted that he had differences with National Reconstruction Bureau chairman Danial Aziz. He alleged that Mr Aziz had been interfering in affairs of the Sindh government and at his instigation, nazims had held a protest rally in Islamabad. He said he would soon meet the president to complain against Mr Aziz.

Referring to the local bodies' election, he said nazims would soon be removed and DCOs would be appointed as administrators for the polls. He made it clear that political people would not be appointed for the purpose.

He said work on a water supply project of Jacobabad was continuing. He said he would not compromise on interests of Sindh. He gave an assurance that the ban on employment would be lifted soon and recruitment would be made on merit.

The chief minister said the Sindh government had provided security to the lady doctor who had been criminally assaulted in Sui, Balochistan.

Former Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, Sindh ministers Sohrab Khan Sarki and Sadaruddin Shah Rashidi, MNA Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani, former MNA Mir Darya Khan Khoso, MPA Naseer Khan Khoso, former MNA Mir Babal Khan Jakhrani, former Balochistan Governor Nazar Khan Khoso and others also attended the ceremony.
