ISLAMABAD: Accused in jail riot case granted bail

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Feb 4: The Supreme Court on Friday granted interim bail to three senior police officers and two doctors after they had surrendered before the apex court.

They were accused of dereliction of duty in the Sialkot Jail riot case in which four civil judges were killed.

A three-member bench comprising Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, Justice Rana Bhagwandas and Justice Javed Buttar granted bail subject to furnishing of Rs100,000 surety bond each, but required them to appear before the trial court regularly.

The court also summoned the advocate-general of Punjab for the next hearing and adjourned proceedings till the last week of February.
