PESHAWAR, Jan 26: The Pakistan Medical Association has called upon the president of Pakistan to intervene to save the life of lady doctor who was assaulted in Sui after a jirga reportedly declared her a kari who must be eliminated.

Addressing a news conference at the Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday, PMA president Dr Umar Ayub Khan and general secretary Dr Akbar Khalil regretted that the accused in the case had been allowed to present their points of view on the national television.

The PMA leaders said if the accused wanted to plead innocent, they should do so before the tribunal set up by the Balochistan government. They said that officials of the Pakistan Petroleum Ltd, who had allegedly presented the case as one of robbery, should be immediately suspended and brought to justice.
