SARGODHA, Jan 23: A former constable-turned-drug pusher was arrested in a police 'encounter' in Chaweywala village on Eid day, some 40km from here.

Reports said former policeman Allah Ditta Meikan abused and scuffled with some people for offering the Eid prayers without waiting for him. This matter was reported to the DPO who deputed Sahiwal DSP Asghar Ali Cheema and Sahiwal and Tirkhanwala SHOs to arrest the fellow who was allegedly involved in narcotics' smuggling.

When a police team reached his residence, Allah Ditta opened fire on the raiding party which was returned. Later, the police managed to reach the roof of the house and resorted to tear gas which forced the ex-constable to surrender.

Police reportedly seized 1,015 gram heroin, a rifle and cash worth Rs173,000 and got his physical remand. Allah Ditta had been sacked in 1989 for his involvement in narcotics.
