karo-kari: People's Party Parliamentarians MNA Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah has observed that incidents of karo-kari and violence against women can be controlled only if womenfolk get proper education.

Speaking at a seminar on "Karo-kari and violence against women" organized by the Aurat Foundation at the town hall in Rohri, he urged educated women to speed their struggle against the social ills in urban as well as rural areas.

Mr Shah called for a vigorous campaign against karo-kari and violence against women. He said the issues should be taken up at different forums and practical help be extended to women subjected to violence. He said legal help should also be provided to relatives of victims of karo-kari and other kinds of violence.

He said majority of cases of karo-kari were not reported to police and those reported were not being pleaded in courts properly due to which culprits roamed about freely.
