PESHAWAR: Woman sent to jail

PESHAWAR, Jan 19: A woman charged with committing adultery by her husband was sent to prison on Wednesday by a judicial magistrate, Haq Nawaz Swathi.

The woman, Hidayat Bibi, was produced before the court by officials of the Faqirabad police station. They requested the court to allow them her physical remand to interrogate her.

The woman was arrested during the wee hours of Tuesday from her residence at Shadi Pir area on the complaint of her husband, Wazir Khan. Hidayat had come into limelight in 1997 when she killed her then husband Khaista Khan and a police officer, Roshan Khan, claiming that her husband was forcing her into prostitution.

She was convicted in 1998 by the district and sessions judge and sentenced to the period served in prison. Hidayat Bibi told reporters on Wednesday that an official of the Faqirabad police station, Ijaz Haidiri, had registered a concocted case against her in connivance with her husband and son-in-law, Iftikhar.
