PMA demo condemns doctor's rape

KARACHI, Jan 18: Pakistan Medical Association, condemning the rape of a doctor in Sui has demanded that the culprits be arrested and given stern punishment.

Speaking at a demonstration, organized by the PMA at Karachi Press Club, PMA secretary general Qaiser Sajjad also demanded that a high-level independent inquiry be instituted in to the tragedy.

He said that all those officials who were trying to save the culprits be exposed and brought to book. He said that that the attitude of the officials in this matter is questionable.

He also said under a planned strategy, the doctors were being targeted. Many had been killed; others had been put in jail, while many others have been detained without any charges.

Besides a large number of PMA members, representatives of various civil society organizations including Aurat Foundation, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, Shirkat Gah, War Against Rape, Bazm-i-Amna, and concerned citizens also participated.
