GUJRANWALA, Jan 14: The entire staff of the city tehsil council tax and license branch, including an assistant collector, were suspended on the charge of absence from duty. While building inspectors were issued show-cause notices for coming late by the tehsil municipal officer here on Friday.

TMO Chaudhry Zubair Hussain Nat checked the attendance of the staff and found the tax and license branch office locked till 9am. Taking prompt action, he suspended assistant collector Fiaz Ahmad, head clerk Idrees Sundho, clerks Amjad Rafiq, Ferzad Ali, Ataullah and other low-paid employees from service immediately.

He also checked the attendance of building inspectors Muhammad Ali, Saleemullah Khan, Najeebullah Khan, Nazir Hussain and Riaz Ahmad and issued them show-cause notices for coming late.

The TMO sent recommendations to the DCO to take action against sub-engineers Azizur Rehman, Munawer Tarer, Sardar Mazher and others for coming late and showing lack of interest in official work.

ARRESTED: A raiding team of the Anti-Corruption Establishment arrested a food inspector, a supervisor and three education department officials on the charge of corruption here on Friday.

As per reports, food inspector Bilal Babar and supervisor Malik Mujahid Akram embezzled wheat worth Rs1.1 million from the procurement centre of Kot Ladha village. While Muhammad Arshad, Ahmad Hussain and Muhammad Akram got employment in the education department on fake certificates. All were found guilty of charges in an inquiry. A case has been registered against them while further investigation is under way.
