PESHAWAR: No terror threat in NWFP, says IG

PESHAWAR, Jan 13: The IGP of NWFP, Mohammad Raffat Pasha, said that law and order situation was satisfactory and under control and there was no threat of terrorism and sectarianism in the province.

He was addressing police officers and Jawans of Tank Police at District Tank on Wednesday which was the first ever Police Darbar of any IGP in District Tank. DIG of D I Khan, Mohammad Habibur Rehman, SSP of Dera, Mohammad Saeed Khan, SP of Tank, Hafiz Gulzar Hussain, ASPs, DSPs and local journalists were also present on the occasion.

The IGP pointed out that in spite of close proximity with South Waziristan Agency and peculiar existing situation, law and order situation in district Tank was much better which showed the hard work and professional commitment of the police force and Jawans.

He said that due to geographical situation of the district, great responsibility rests on the shoulders of Tank's police. He directed the participants of the Darbar to keep close vigil on saboteurs and miscreants and foil their designs.

While giving policy guidelines to the police, the IGP directed them to exhibit integrity, improve public dealing and differentiate between accused and innocent people. They were further directed to meet the complainants in a polite manner and register their complaints without any delay.

About the shortage of manpower in Tank, the IGP said that 72 police constables had been recruited last November and more constables would be recruited soon to overcome the shortage of police strength in the district.

Talking to the journalists present on the occasion, the IGP said that the press and police were concomitant with each other and urged them to use their pen for purging evils from society and keep positive and re formative aspects in their mind while compiling their stories.

During the Darbar many police officers and Jawans presented their individual and collective problems. Earlier, the IGP presided over a law and order meeting of police high-ups of the D I Khan region. -APP
