FAISALABAD, Jan 12: The University of Agriculture has decided to launch four-year BSc (Honours) Home Economics. The decision had been taken on the instructions of Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the chancellor.

Arrangements have also been made to make basic changes in the curriculum of home economics. According to the university management, the main objective of the plan is to widen the scope of home economics by offering major subjects after four semesters in the areas of food and nutrition, clothing and textile, human development and family studies, management studies and housing and related art.

The Department of Rural Home Economics was established in the university in 1980-81 which offered a diploma in the field. The two-year BSc Home Economics degree programme was initiated in 1990-91. Unfortunately, the graduating students have to face problems like non-equivalence with degrees awarded by other institutions.
