KARACHI, Jan 8: The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has urged the President, Pervez Musharraf, to take notice of the news published in a section of the press regarding the recent incidence of gang-rape of a lady doctor in Sui, Balochistan.

In a letter to the President of Pakistan, the PMA General Secretary, Dr Shershah Syed, expressed his concern over the lack of sensitivity of the federal and provincial governments regarding the incidence.

"It has become a routine for women to be raped in different parts of country, and invariably there is lack of response from government agencies regarding filing of FIRs and arrest of culprits," he stated.

He urged the president to intervene into the matter and make sure that justice was delivered to the unfortunate citizen of Pakistan and her family.

"Due to the current attitude of hostility being demonstrated by the government towards health workers, a large number of doctors and health-support workers are leaving the country.

It will be timely on your part to show some concern towards their plight and express support for them publicly," he requested the president. - PPI
