BAHAWALPUR, Jan 8: Malik Muhammad Aslam Channar and Khawaja Ghulam Murtaza were elected on Saturday president and secretary- general of the district bar association respectively.

According to election commission chairman Haq Nawaz Qamar, Malik Channar polled 405 votes against 242 bagged by his rival Naveedur Rehman.

Khawaja Ghulam Murtaza obtained 376 votes while his opponent Muhammad Tayyub Zamir Khan got 276 votes. Altaf Hussain Khan Baloch was elected vice-president by securing 395 votes while his rival Muhammad Iqbal Gujjar got 213 votes.

Out of 984 bar members, 665 exercised their right to vote. Eight votes were rejected while one ballot paper was found blank.

GUJRANWALA: As many as 10 members of the executive council of the district bar association were elected unopposed here on Saturday.

They were identified as Qaisar Raza Rai, Abdul Azeem, Muhammad Akram, Muhammad Tauqir, Ashraf Mehar, Gul Nawaz Goraya, Kausar Hussain Sundrana, Nasir Inayat Sarra, Tariq Mehmood Cheema, Ahmad Naeem and Anjum Sulehria.

At present, three candidates - Saifullah Cheema, Navid Anwar Navid and Munir Abbasi - are in the run for the president slot.
