PESHAWAR: FIA complex in Hayatabad inaugurated

PESHAWAR, Jan 6: The Director-General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Mr Mohib Asad, inaugurated the FIA Complex in Hayatabad township here on Thursday.
Mr Asad came to the city on Thursday morning and, after performing the opening ceremony of the FIA complex and attending a luncheon at the Police Lines with other FIA officials, returned to Islamabad. Sources told Dawn that FIA officials would be shifted to the new complex after its completion in a few months.
HUMAN TRAFFICKING: The FIA passport circle has arrested 33 people on the charge of human trafficking during 2004, a senior official told Dawn here on Thursday.
FIA Deputy Director Mumtaz Ahmad Khan said that since the promulgation of Human Trafficking Ordinance 2002, they had tightened the noose around human traffickers and registered 38 cases against 63 suspects last year.
In the year 2003, only 14 cases were registered against 30 Suspected human traffickers and during that period the FIA detained 18 people. Last year, the deputy director said, the FIA submitted charge- sheets of 10 accused and the court convicted five men on charges of human trafficking. Last year, different FIA wings registered cases against 154 People on different charges and the court imposed a fine of Rs688,500 on the accused.
KILLED: A young couple was hanged by some unknown men in the Mulazai locality of Nasirbagh, late Wednesday night. Fazlur Rehman, a resident of Jehangirabad in Tehkal Bala area, told police that his 30-year-old son, Gohar Ali, had moved to Mulazai area after marrying Sarbad, a few years ago.
He claimed that some unknown men entered their house on Wednesday night and hanged the couple by ceiling fans. Mr Rehman told the police that neither he nor his late son had any enmity with anyone. The Nasirbagh police have registered a case and are investigating.
