KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 3: A Malaysian fishing boat rescued an Acehnese woman who had been drifting in the Indian Ocean for five days after last week's tsunami, officials said on Monday.

The woman in her 20s was found floating not far from the shores of the Aceh province, a Malaysian International Tuna Port official told Bernama news agency. "From initial information received from the crew, the woman, with leg injuries, is safe," he said.

He said the woman would be hospitalized once the ship arrived back at the port on the Malaysian island of Penang. The ship did not report any major damage from the giant waves triggered by an undersea earthquake. -APP
