PESHAWAR, Dec 29: The Capital City Police seized about 2,400 kilograms of hasish here on Wednesday from secret compartments of a gas tanker. The contraband was being smuggled to Punjab, officials said.

According to a press release, SSP Operation Abid Ali received information that a huge quantity of drugs would be transported in a gas tanker carrying registration No. LG 4632. The police chased the vehicle and stopped it. However, the driver escaped.

The police searched the vehicle and recovered 2,400 kilograms of hasish from the secret cavities of the tanker. The police also found an identity card, 21203-13219987 suspected to be belonging to the driver Taila Khan, a resident of Landi Kotal, Khyber Agency.

The police took the gas tanker and the seized hasish into its custody and registered a case against Taila Khan. Meanwhile, special investigation unit of Capital City Police have arrested a gang of car-lifters here on Wednesday.

The gang was operating in Peshawar and Hayatabad and also involved in car-lifting in Mardan, Nowshera, Swat, Bara and Malakand Agency. The police have also arrested ringleader Shah Bacha, a resident of Mohmand agency. The other gang members, Khanzad Gul of Bara, Sardar a resident of Batkhela, Maqbool a resident of Swabi were arrested along with their vehicle Corolla Model 86.

A car with number plate AGG-166 snatched on the night of Aug 14 belonging to Noor Alam Shinwari was recovered from the car-lifters and returned to its owner. Two other vehicles lifted from Lahore and Rawalpindi were also recovered.
